Matthew 25 Ministries have partnered with us to include the Le Phare Orphanage in a micro-nutrient juice program to help improve the children's health and well-being. Mike and David delivered the juice, igloo cooler and cups on Tuesday. It was great to see them again - two very energetic guys!
"Micro-nutrient malnutrition has been recognized as one of the most wide-spread and a major cause of illnesses and poor physical/mental development. The most affected are children, adolescents and women of childbearing age.
The primary cause of micro-nutrient malnutrition is lack of adequate intake of highly bioavailable micronutrients. International organizations (WHO, UNICEF, Micronutrient Initiative) and the scientific community have recommended fortification of commonly consumed foods as one of the preferred approaches of eradicating micronutrient malnutition. The micronutrient fortified fruit juice beverage, developed by Proctor and Gamble to meet the need in developing countries, will be used in the Haiti monitoring study.
This juice product contains 11 micronutrients including iron, vitamin A, iodine, zinc, B-vitamins (folate, B12, B6, B2, niacin), vitamin C and vitamin E. Previous clinical studies conducted in multiple countries and age groups have shown repeated consumption of the fortified beverage significantly improved micronutrient status, growth, mental ability, and school performance."
Le Phare is blessed to be included in receiving the beverage for a year, but we are not officially a part of the pilot study. It will be interesting to see how our children fare with this addition to their diet.

These next photos were when we were just hanging out together. We have some of the cutest kids in the world here at this home!

What a trio! |

These are 3 of the group of 5 siblings we brought from the mountains the first part of September. They have adjusted and integrated well in to the home. I'm seeing James participate more and more in the activities, such as singing. He is picking up the lyrics and seems to really enjoy singing. This whole children's home is a singing bunch! All three of these children have become more interactive with everyone. |
